Month in Review: January

, ,

January was such a whirlwind of everything.

I was planning on handing in my thesis on the 22nd of January, but after a talk with my advisor and taking a hard look at where I was in my life, I decided to postpone it until February. I am glad that I did that since I got some new information that I think are crucial for the thesis.

In January I lost my job. The company I worked for decided to close and there was just a lot of things happening. Applying for jobs, and working those few last days was such a whirlwind. It was a kick in the ass for me to actually apply for future jobs that are in the career I want to be in instead of just working part-time at the company I was working for. Even though it has been stressful I do believe change is good and I am excited for what will come.

Blog wise, I set myself the goal of posting every Wednesday instead of just posting whatever, whenever. I really liked the structure of it and might add another day into the mix in February (like this post is not posted on a Wednesday).

19 in 2019 Update

In my monthly updates I am only writing about the ones that I worked on this month.

Nineteen books read (5/19)

(The links below are affiliate links)

Hilma by  Óskar Guðmundsson – I really did not like this book, the characters, the plot, the writing. 1.5/5

I decided to read through all of Yrsa Sigurðardóttir books in the right order and in Icelandic. So that is why I have basically just read her books.

Þriðja Táknið (E. Last Rituals) by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir  – great book. Part murder mystery and part about Icelandic witch craft. 4/5

Sér grefur gröf (E. My Soul to Take) by Yrsa Sigðurðardóttir – super sad book! SO SAD! 4/5

Aska (E. Ashes to Dust) by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir – Meehhhhh. I think this one is the least favourite out of the bunch. Made me though want to visit Vestmannaeyjar. 2/5

Auðnin (E. The Day is Dark) by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir – pretty good. 4/5

Eighteen postcard sent (1/18)

I sent one postcard to an aunt of mine.

Eleven different types of bread baked (1/11)

I baked a Focaccia with thyme, garlic and salt. It was incredibly good!

Six items of clothing made (1/6)

I decided that the headband I made was going to count as one item of clothing. I am knitting another one for a friend, and I might not count that one. I haven’t decided.

One recipe book cooked (3/86)

The recipe book I am cooking through is called Cook Beautiful (affiliate link).

We chose this recipe book as our mutual Christmas present. It contains 86 different recipes and then some extra sauces and things that are being used in different recipes.

So far we have made three things out of the book and I have found them all to be quite delicious.

Chickpea-Merguez Hash
Pan-Roasted Chicken with Shallots and Dates
Spinach and Goat Cheese Frittata

Not bad at all for the first month of these goals! I am quite happy with what I have accomplished and I am quite happy with the goals that I have set myself.
