Naomi Shaw used to believe in magic. Twenty-two years ago, she and her two bets friends spent the summer roaming in the woods, playing a game that became an obsession and a refuge.
That sanctuary was shattered when Naomi was attacked. Miraculously, she survived her stab wounds, and the girls’ testimony put away a serial killer. They were heroes.
And they were liars.
Now, after fresh tragedy strikes. Naomi sets out to discover what really happened in the woods – no matter how dangerous the truth turns out to be.
My thoughts
I absolutely loved this book! All of the characters were flawed in their own ways without them being flawed just to be flawed. There were a lot of characters but they all had their space and time in the story. I didn’t feel like there were any filler characters that were there to make the story longer. All of them had a purpose.
I enjoyed that the book was a bit different than many similar serial killer books since the serial killer is in jail already. It more deals with the aftermath of it all and what life is like after trauma.
The book really flowed well, the pace of the story was quick. It does have several flashbacks but they are all used to bringing the story forward. A lot of things are happening in the book, both in the past and in current time.
I liked trying to figure everything out when reading the novel and I really liked the suspense of it all and how the character connected.
