My Bucket List for Finland: Finale

, ,

We all knew this day would come. I have moved away from Finland and back to Iceland.

When I moved to Helsinki the plan was to stay for four semesters, a full master’s degree. What happened is that I stayed for three semester, still a full master’s degree. I had planned that my lest semester would have been a rather relaxed, not attending any classes and focusing on my thesis and finishing the bucket list. Instead I decided to work hard and therefore being able to move back home a semester early.

I didn’t manage to finish everything on my list. But I am happy with what I managed to accomplish!

  1. Visit Rovaniemi
  2. Go to a public sauna
  3. Go for an ice-dip
  4. Swim in a lake/sea (not related to the ice dip)
  5. Visit three different cities in Finland
  6. Visit museums in Helsinki
    • Natural History Museum of Helsinki
      • Pretty great museum. Most things are written in Finnish but still always fun to see.
    • Ateneum Art Museum
    • Kiasma
    • HAM
    • Designmuseo
    • Hakasalmi Villa (Helsinki City Museum)
      • Not the greatest museum in Helsinki. But it is free!
    • Helsinki University Museum
    • Amos Rex
  7. Eat (I wrote a post about this)
    • Viili
      • Not bad at all!
    • Mämmi
      • Not my cup of tea.
    • Leipäjuusto
      • Love it!
    • Reindeer meat
      • Absolutely delicious!
    • Elk meat
    • The original Hesburger!
  8. Learn how to make
    • Mannapuuro
    • Pannukakku
      • Both of these things have become something I love to make and eat!
  9. Read a book in Finnish
  10. Knit something with Finnish wool
    • I knitted some baby socks for my nieces with some Finnish wool.
  11. Take one of the City Bikes for a spin.

That is it, goodbye Finland! I will definitely visit again!

  1. Amazing, that You never tasted or ate Finnish Karelian Pasty! There are two types of them – one made from rice and the other from potato. Which one is better, everybody decides.

    Happy New Year!
