Month in Review: July

There is something about July that makes me start rethinking everything. I frequently get the feeling that the year is almost over and I haven’t accomplished much. Which is usually wrong. This year I didn’t really set myself any goals, so technically I am doing what I wanted to do. Also, I have done so much this year that I should be putting myself down for not accomplishing nothing. These past twelve months have been whirlwind of everything. I have been moving around and starting new things whilst at the same time still holding onto the things I care about. It hasn’t been easy, and I haven’t really decided if I regret my decisions or not.

That is why I wanted to write about things that I have accomplished this year.

  • I finished the first year of my master’s and started on my thesis. And if everything goes as planned I will be finished this year.
  • I have been to the gym a lot, and when I moved back to Iceland over the summer I have been hiking a lot.
  • I started eating healthier and stopped relying as much on sugar as before. I started eating at least one meal a day and thinking about what I was eating.
  • I got rid of things that I wasn’t using, which were slowing down my creative process.
  • I have been working on using less plastic in my daily life. I have almost completely stopped using single-use coffee cups, I use my own container for take outs, and I try to buy plastic-free products over plastic products.
  • I have been cultivating my relationships and opening myself up to people.

I am happy with how these past six months have been going, could I have done better? Probably, but knowing myself, this is probably the most I can do.

It is so easy being harsh on yourself and thinking about all the things you haven’t accomplished and comparing yourself with others. And when I feel like that I find it helps me to note down all the things I have accomplished, and be proud of those things. It doesn’t even have to be big accomplishments, because simply accomplishing things, whether it is getting out of bed in the morning or simply just being kinder to yourself. It all matters to the most important person in your life, yourself.

  1. Good luck with your thesis! I am also trying to finish mine this year 🙏 The hiking in Iceland sounds awesome, such a great way to get fit and enjoy the nature at the same time. 💕 We have had a tropical summer in Finland, it’s been amazing☀️

  2. […] What I find interesting in all this is that last July I wrote about feeling similarly as I did this … So maybe it is also a seasonal thing for me. […]
