Product Review: Evolve Organic Beauty – Gentle Cleansing Melt

,

I wanted to write a little bit about the Evolve Organic Beauty Gentle Cleansing Melt which I have been using for some time now.  I mentioned it in my Spring Skincare Inventory but when I wrote that post I had only been using it  for couple of days.

First a couple of things about the product itself.

The cleanser comes in a glass jar with a plastic lid. Additionally, the jar itself comes in a paper box. On the bottom of the jar there is a sticker that tells you when the cleanser was made and the best before date. According to my jar the cleanser should be fine for 3 years. However, it does say as well that it does go bad after 12 months of being open.

You get 120ml / 4.1fl.oz of the cleanser and a little bit of it goes a long way.

The ingredients in the cleanser are all good, they all get 1 from the EWG’s Skin Deep Database.

Caprylic /Capric Triglyceride*, Glycerin*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Oil*, Sucrose Laurate, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil*, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Water*, Vanilla Planifolia (Vanilla) Fruit Extract*, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil*, Tocopherol.

*ingredients from organic farming

They mention on their site that they are currently cruelty free, they do not sell their product to mainland China. However, they mention that:

Some cosmetic ingredients, even natural ones, were animal tested many years ago. Although we aren’t currently certified with the BUAV we do follow the practise of setting a cut off period beyond which we won’t use any animal tested ingredients. Our cut off date is 2005.

Which is fine, however, I would prefer to see a cut off date that would be earlier than 2005.

But to the cleanser itself. There are several things I really like about it. It does clean the makeup off my skin very well. Also, eye makeup without stinging my eyes! It does feel amazing when you are massaging the cleanser into your face, the scent isn’t overwhelming and it just makes the process of removing your makeup a bit more luxurious.

However, there are a couple of things that I don’t like about the  Evolve Organic Beauty Gentle Cleansing Melt. I feel like it leaves residue on my skin after I use it. Even though I use a washcloth to wipe it off, or take a shower afterwards. I can still feel the cleanser on my skin, something I seriously do not like! Connected to that is that the scent lingers on my face and since it is based of coconut oil I feel like the oil goes rancid and that is the scent that is on my face.

Additionally. my washcloth has the scent of the product on it, even after washing and I feel like that is also a bit rancid now. So I wonder if I need to throw out my face towels because of the cleanser, and that is tremendously wasteful.

Finally, because it is an oil-based cleanser it does not mix well with my contact lenses. If I have them in whilst I clean my face they become very foggy and dirty.

I do like this cleanser and I will continue using it until I have finished the jar. However, I am not sure if I would repurchase this when it is finished.

Until next time.

  2. […] I wrote a review about this product. I think I will finish this cleansing melt soon. As I have used this product more and more I am not sure if I like it or not. I just really don’t like how much oil it still leaves on my face and I just don’t feel clean after I use it. I need another cleanser to be completely clean. […]
