The Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden

I went to the Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden for a class that was supposed to be great but wasn’t. But hey, I got some pictures!

The Botanic Garden is both a Glasshouse (that has a 10€ entrance fee) and then the park area that is free. I didn’t go into the park area much because it was covered in snow! Instead, we walked around the glasshouse.

The structure of the glasshouse is gorgeous, it is a beautiful glasshouse! However, I am not sure if it is worth paying 10€ to go inside! Luckily I got in for free since it was for a class.

There are ten different rooms you can look at that all have different themes, such as the Desert Room, the Waterlily Room, and the Palm House.

I think the Waterlily room was my favourite (pictured above). Apparently, they have a water lily that survived WWII and its leaves can carry a person. However, it wasn’t there when we went. So that was a big let down. But the Waterlily room was still beautiful even with very few any water lilies.

We took our time walking through the Glasshouse but it did not take us more than an hour to see everything, take pictures and marvel at some of the plants. It was a bit of a let down because I love botanical gardens and have visited many of them and I have never been as underwhelmed as with the Helsinki Botanic Garden. Especially since I do walk past it every day and have marvelled at how beautiful the Glasshouse is.

Overall, it was nice but I wouldn’t go and visit it if I had to pay. I mean the Botanical Garden in Geneva (a MUST SEE) has free admission and is much MUCH more beautiful!
