Bucket List Update: Finnish Food

, ,

Hello!

It is quite the food and bucket list theme on the blog this week! I thought it would be fun to take some pictures and talk about the Finnish food I had on my bucket list. I still haven’t eaten elk meat or the Original HesBurger, but I still have some time!

Viili

It tastes like yoghurt, it feels like gum! The natural version is delicious with some cinnamon and honey. It is something I enjoy eating. As you can see in the Instagram video below the texture of viili is simply just really odd!

Mämmi

I was expecting this to taste like the Icelandic bread soup (brauðsúpa) and it did, sort of. This is eaten cold with vanilla sauce and it was not bad, but it was not really good. It was missing the main aspect of brauðsúpa the hint of orange. I did quite enjoy the vanilla sauce that you should eat with it and as I mentioned, it isn’t bad, it just isn’t really good.

Leipäjuusto

Delicious, which isn’t surprising to me because cheese is the greatest thing in the world. I love to eat it with a bit of cloudberry jam. Absolutely delicious! I also enjoy it without the jam. It is just a really delicious cheese. I am not sure how I enjoy the squeaky sound it makes as you chew it but that is about the only thing I don’t enjoy about it.

That is it for today!

  1. I have only eaten leipäjuusto cold! I might try it warm, I read somewhere you should pour hot coffee over it and eat it that way, which I am not so sure about. I did not know you should eat the mämmi with milk and sugar! I was told to eat it with the vanilla sauce!! In Iceland, the skyr is the traditional yoghurt, and sour milk but nothing with the viili texture.

  2. Omg leipäjuusto wtih coffee! I have never heard of that but you never know if that’s the custom somewhere else in Finland. It doesn’t sound very appetizing 😅 Oh yes Skyr is very popular here too 👌
