Hello,
Let’s talk about food, let’s talk about amazing food and different traditions!

Today (Monday) in Iceland we have Bolludagur (Bun Day), I have always thought that it is the same in the rest of Scandinavia. The traditions in Scandinavia are frequently quite similar so why wouldn’t it be same here in Finland.
Little did I know! Here in Finland, they don’t eat the delicious Icelandic Bolla but laskiaispulla. The laskiaispulla, also known as Semla, is a yeast bun filled with yam and cream or almond paste and cream. In comparison, the Icelandic ones are made out of choux pastry (which is not the only French pastry that has a long history in Iceland).

Additionally, they don’t eat them on a Monday but Tuesday! Tomorrow they will celebrate Laskiainen/Fettisdagen and eat the bun. Tomorrow in Iceland we have Sprengidagur, a day of eating salted meat and yellow split pea soup.
Since I am celebrating the Icelandic Bollurdagur I decided to bake some. I baked them yesterday and followed this recipe (link in Icelandic).

This morning I went over to a friend’s place and not only enjoyed eating my bollur but also delicious Karjalanpiirakka and some homemade blueberry scones. A great start to the week!
Until later!
-Katrin
