Knitted: Beanie for a Friend

Hello!

There are several things I enjoyed when knitting the beanie and two things I did not enjoy! Let’s start with the negative things!

Beanie and a bookAt first, I knitted the hat with 2.5 mm needles and whilst it did look good the hat was ultimately too small. I decided to start again and used 3.5 mm needles instead. I went to Søstrene Grene in Kringlan and saw that they had some knitting needles and decided to try them. Worst mistake ever! They were just so bad and had a horrible smell! And they still smell absolutely disgusting! Cable beanieI gave up on the needles from Søstrene Grene and finished the hat with just regular pointed bamboo needles. Which I then managed to break one! I am started to think that the yarn was haunted!

The other thing has been the weather here in Helsinki has not been great. It has been super cloudy. Additionally, the clouds are super low making it hard to take any decent pictures! So I just have two pictures of the hat, both not really 100% in focus.

But let’s talk a bit about this amazing yarn. It is recycled cashmere and was bought in Snurre which has somewhat become my happy place here in Helsinki. It is called Eco Cash I and is from Palma Fibre. It was absolutely wonderful to knit with the yarn. It was soft, it didn’t tear easily, and it didn’t untwist itself. I used one skein of it for the beanie.

The beanie itself is a very simple patter, 110 stitches and just two different sizes of cable. But it still turned out beautiful (if I can say so myself). It did take me some time to knit it, since the yarn is quite thin, and I had to knit it twice! But it was totally worth it.

And at last, I definitely recommend the novel green grass, running water by Thomas King it is an amazing novel that is worth reading.

Until next time.
