My Bucket List for Finland: Update #1

, ,

Hello,

I haven’t written in a while since the beginning of December was just a nightmare of deadlines and then I decided to take a real Christmas break and let me tell you it was amazing.

However, I wanted to do an update on my bucket list for my time in Finland especially since I didn’t make any new year resolutions. A lot of things have happened (finished my first semester) and I wanted to see how I have been doing. I haven’t accomplished a lot and at the moment I cannot see myself accomplishing several things on the list!

For example, when will I manage to go cross-country skiing? What was I thinking! And I think I won’t ever read a book in Finish! But if there are only two things that I don’t accomplish I won’t be mad.

Natural Museum of Helsinki

  1. Visit Rovaniemi
  2. Go to a public sauna
  3. Go for an ice-dip
  4. Swim in a lake/sea (not related to the ice dip)
  5. Go cross-country skiing
  6. Visit museums in Helsinki
    • Natural History Museum of Helsinki
      • Pretty great museum. Most things are written in Finnish but still always fun to see.
    • Ateneum Art Museum
    • Kiasma
    • HAM
    • Designmuseo
    • Hakasalmi Villa (Helsinki City Museum)
      • Not the greatest museum in Helsinki. But it is free!
    • Helsinki University Museum
  7. Eat
    • Viili
    • Mämmi
    • Leipäjuusto
    • Reindeer meat
      • Absolutely delicious!
    • Elk meat
    • The original Hesburger!
  8. Learn how to make
    • Mannapuuro
    • Pannukakku
      • Both of these things have become something I love to make and eat!
  9. Read a book in Finnish
  10. Knit something with Finnish wool
    • I knitted some baby socks for my nieces with some Finnish wool.
  11. Dye my hair a bright color

I think my goal for this semester is to eat Viili and Mämmi and go to a couple of more of the museums. We’ll see if I go ice dipping or dye my hair! There is no snow in Helsinki so I can’t go skiing!

Until next time!

  2. […] One more thing I have managed to accomplish from my bucket list! I went to the Helsinki University Museum with a friend before we headed to a class one afternoon. The museum isn’t bit but it is quite interesting, as the name of the museum suggests it is about the history of the University of Helsinki. […]
